The Red River Valley Railroad Historical Society, Inc. was
founded in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1981 by a small but dedicated group of
railroad enthusiasts. The goals of the society are to establish a
railroad
museum containing railroad artifacts, memorabilia, documents and photographs,
and to enjoy train related activities such as train rides, photography and
train
operations. Currently, the society is involved in expanding the live steam
railroad at the
American Rose Center. The Society has collected a large
inventory of railroad material and owns several items of rolling stock including
a steam locomotive, caboose, coach, dining
car, and motor car.

Goals for the Society year
2007:
First - a museum site.
This has been our first goal for more than twenty-five years. This goal is the
key to our main reason to exist as a Society. It is just as important today as
it ever was. We need about 1 ½ to 2 acres with access to a rail siding. Everyone
in our group can help with the search for such a location.
Second – we need to
recruit more members. Being a railfan is not necessary for membership. People
that want to build a better Shreveport-Bossier and broaden the cultural
experiences in our area are possible members. Talk to people you know and let
them know about us and what we are trying to do, ask them to join us and help
make our dream a reality.
Third – we need to
continue painting our equipment to preserve it and make it more presentable to
the public and to officials that might help us find a location.
Fourth – we need to
compile a complete inventory of all our equipment and other articles. Dave has
already made a good beginning on this goal.

Fifth – this goal
is also part of the first one in that we need to find a place to store the
Caspiana Depot so that it is not lost. This may be a temporary location but we
need to find a place for it.
